Tzeni Dokou

I first encountered Haris Kakarouhas through his photographs at an exhibition of his work.
It was a set of photographs that was more than a project comprising photo stories, forms and content.
I felt that something was happening there without being able to explain it.
But with the passage of time, as things turned out, I would have the chance to discover everything that was inexplicable.
Doing the workshop together with Haris, I let go of all the theories that I’d been carrying around in my head for so many years. It wasn’t easy… but it was effective!
It changed the way I see the world and myself in it. I rediscovered my place in the world and my truth. Because nothing means anything if you don’t know who you are.
Our truth, what we photograph, is hidden in there somewhere, but we don’t know it…. . We think we know; we think we see… .
We photograph ourselves in our world. A photograph always tells the photographer’s truth; that’s the only story it can tell.
At the Insight workshop I learnt ways of expressing my truth but also how to understand the truth of others. The truth of the world that we photograph with such passion.
